Hello! For practice tonight, I asked the students to look at my website. I know there are parts that need to be constructed or updated so I will be working on that! The most important take-away for tonight is where to find the daily practice. You can find it by clicking on "practice" on today's date in the calendar. There's no guarantee that I will update the practice every night, but I try my best so that parents and students can clarify with the planner if need be.
Parents please sign the student planner daily. It is critical to their success that we work together to set the standard and show the importance of how and why we use a planner. I appreciate your help! Enjoy the rain (sooo glad it's here) and have a great evening! Welcome back to school! We had an amazing first day and it was lovely getting to know all the students.
Your student will bring the planner home daily, and the Oakridge folder. The planner has what we did, what is due or what needs to be done, written by your student on that day in the planner. Please review this with your student and write your initials at the bottom of the column so I know you have seen it. Please also check the folder. One side is "To do and return," and the other side is "Keep at home." Please be sure to review the planner, folder, disclosure and classroom policy handout. These are full of important information you will need to know. The best way to reach me is by email, or you may drop in before or after school. I am looking forward to a fun year of teaching and learning with your students. Thank you for sharing them with me this year! We have a Chapter 4 math test on Monday. Over the holiday break, please be sure the students work each problem on the test review. I have given them the answers, but they must "prove" that the answer is correct. This will be a graded assignment.
We have had several ill students the last two weeks. Please be sure that your student is getting plenty of rest and nutrition. We are doing all we can to keep bad germs to a minimum in class! Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding your student and their education. I am happy to meet with you and discuss any items you may feel need attention. I found this fun quote that I would like to share: Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy. They are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. - Marcel Proust I am truly grateful to all the students for being my 'charming gardeners!' Happy Thanksgiving! I could use some help making copies today or tomorrow, if anyone has the time I'd sooooo appreciate it! Have a great day!
I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween! Thank you to those who made an effort to Trick-or-Treat to my home; I love living and supporting our community, and it was fun to see everyone celebrating the holiday!
I realize the homework is a little more than usual tonight, but please hang in there and persevere through to the end! For writing class tomorrow, the final draft of LRRH must be finished online tonight!!! Hello Parents!
Math - We started Chapter 2 yesterday, Dividing Whole Numbers. You should have received a School-Home Letter yesterday from your student. It was in the homework folder. This letter gives you an idea of what we will be covering, and a sample of how your student will be taught. Please let me know if you did not receive a copy. Please be sure to attend our carnival this Friday! Information is on the Oakridge Website! I look forward to seeing you there! We discussed my role and the students role in the Student-School-Parent Pledge to Learning today. It was interesting that while the students were enthused about finding their signature on the poster, they really had no idea what they had signed. I read the pledge to them, and we discussed the significance of our signature. Please take a moment to review and reinforce the Pledge. It is page 1 in the student planner. Please try to encourage your student to take a moment each day to check gradebook. We have many missing assignments... Thank you to the Art Parents for your help today. The students enjoyed painting their clay!!! Hello Parents! We are trying something new in 5th grade this year! We have heard some whining and complaining lately, things like, "Why are we doing that", and "Aw, do we have to?"
To help the students understand the answer to those questions, and also to provide a general direction for their personal venture in education, we are going to use data binders!!! In our data binders we can write goals, track our educational progress, and reassess if need be. For homework today, I am asking all parents to work with your student and complete the 1st term goals, and the steps I will take to reach my goal, sheet. We went over the Goal Setting Steps in class today, but they may need a review with you (that's the first page). Please have the students write their goals and steps in pencil, so that we can rewrite them if need be. If you notice, the parent and student need to sign this sheet, so please discuss with your student what the significance of both signatures means. We will be keeping the binders at school, but feel free to stop by and check them out if you wish! If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your participation in this exercise, I think it will help guide the students toward success this year! I'm looking for two silver/gray yoga balls for our classroom. We had one that got a hole in it, and I'd like to have a second one as a back up! If you have an extra one you aren't using, would you consider donating it to our classroom? Thank you!
Thank you parents and students for attending SEP Conference. I enjoyed visiting with all of you and I look forward to an awesome year together!
Today is a short day and tomorrow there is no school! Have a great long weekend! We are going on a field trip! We will be going to the Museum of Natural Curiousity on October 11th. The forms are coming home today, please fill them out and return them ASAP!!!
I'm so excited to meet all of you or see you again, which ever is the case, for SEP Conferences!!! Please bring both parents if possible, student, planner, homework and math folder, and any graded homework you may have questions about. I'm still hoping to get a few volunteers to help with student organization. Please email me if you are interested! We will have a math test on Wednesday, and the Spelling and Vocabulary test are on Thursday! More exciting news.... On Monday, we will begin our Young Explorers Unit in Social Studies with a fun, simulation!!! |
