Hello Parents!
Math - We started Chapter 2 yesterday, Dividing Whole Numbers. You should have received a School-Home Letter yesterday from your student. It was in the homework folder. This letter gives you an idea of what we will be covering, and a sample of how your student will be taught. Please let me know if you did not receive a copy. Please be sure to attend our carnival this Friday! Information is on the Oakridge Website! I look forward to seeing you there! We discussed my role and the students role in the Student-School-Parent Pledge to Learning today. It was interesting that while the students were enthused about finding their signature on the poster, they really had no idea what they had signed. I read the pledge to them, and we discussed the significance of our signature. Please take a moment to review and reinforce the Pledge. It is page 1 in the student planner. Please try to encourage your student to take a moment each day to check gradebook. We have many missing assignments... Thank you to the Art Parents for your help today. The students enjoyed painting their clay!!! Hello Parents! We are trying something new in 5th grade this year! We have heard some whining and complaining lately, things like, "Why are we doing that", and "Aw, do we have to?"
To help the students understand the answer to those questions, and also to provide a general direction for their personal venture in education, we are going to use data binders!!! In our data binders we can write goals, track our educational progress, and reassess if need be. For homework today, I am asking all parents to work with your student and complete the 1st term goals, and the steps I will take to reach my goal, sheet. We went over the Goal Setting Steps in class today, but they may need a review with you (that's the first page). Please have the students write their goals and steps in pencil, so that we can rewrite them if need be. If you notice, the parent and student need to sign this sheet, so please discuss with your student what the significance of both signatures means. We will be keeping the binders at school, but feel free to stop by and check them out if you wish! If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your participation in this exercise, I think it will help guide the students toward success this year! |
