Today we got to preview the Book Fair! The students were very excited about the new books; We wrote the titles of the books we would like to have on a 3x5 index card. Please look for those to come home today! The Book Fair will be open after school and throughout SEP Conferences in the evenings on Tuesday and Wednesday.
No School on Friday - YAY!!!!! I'm looking for a few parents to help after the bell in the morning, and before the bell in the afternoon, with student organization. Please email me if you are interested. I'm thinking Tuesday/Thursday mornings and Monday/Wednesday/Friday before the bell rings. The length of time will depend on the number of volunteers. I'm hoping to have 3 volunteers each time and it should only take 15 minutes with that many volunteers. Please don't forget to sign up for SEP Conferences with your student! Hello Parents! Only a few of you have scheduled conference times. Please take a moment to schedule a time to meet on the Scheduler. A few things to remember:
1. Students and both parents should attend 2. If the scheduled times don't work for you, please email me so we can schedule a more convenient time. 3. We only have 15 minutes, so if you have concerns you would like to address, please email me prior to our meeting. I look forward to meeting with all of you this week. Thank you, and have a great day! Hello Everyone! It's been crazy as a zoo lately, literally! Thank you for your patience as I haven't updated the calendar in a couple of days. I would also like to thank all of you for making arrangements or picking up your students after school yesterday. I always say, safety first at all times!
Our math test will be on Wednesday next week. Students do have homework this weekend, please check their planner and the calendar. I would like to give you some hints on how to help them study for the math test. The Chapter 1 review should be in the back, on the right side of their math folder. Today in class, we wrote down exactly which lesson covered every problem. If your student is struggling with understanding a problem on the review, please go over the math notes and homework for the lesson indicated. Where might I find the math notes and homework? You will find 1.1 through 1.5 stapled together on the left side of the math folder. You will find 1.6 through 1.7 on the right side of the folder. They will also have 1.8 through 1.11 notes on the right side of the folder. 1.8 and 1.9 homework will come home on Monday with 1.12 notes, and 1.10 through 1.12 homework will come home on Tuesday. Every lesson in math I try to empower students to be successful. To that end, you will find an "Objective" written towards the beginning of the notes for each math lesson. These are I can statements, usually. By the end of the lesson, I have taught the students what they need to know for that lesson, thereby empowering them to say, " I can..." The students could really use your help, parents. Please, every chance you get, encourage them to say these "I can" statements out loud to you. It really reinforces their math confidence, and helps them realize how much they are learning, and feel the success!! Thank you, and have an awesome weekend! Hello! Today we kicked off our annual fundraiser. Students were sent home with information!
We are deep into Chapter 1 in Math. Please be sure you are reviewing the math vocabulary with your student nightly (it should be in the homework folder). I am planning on a Chapter 1 review on Friday, with the Chapter 1 test on Monday. Please be sure to review Chapter 1 with your student over the weekend. They will have all their notes, homework lessons, mid-chapter review, and vocabulary in their homework folder when they leave school Friday. They will need your help, please! Our first official spelling test will be on Friday. Students were sent home with words to study. Please review them nightly. Coming soon - spelling homework in the Spelling City program! I'll keep you posted! We are studying complete sentences this week. Going forward, beginning next week, I will expected all written work to be done with complete sentences! The key components for you to discuss with students are that sentences begin with capitalization and end with appropriate punctuation. We wrapped up our Tuck Everlasting study last Friday with a fun movie and popcorn, followed by a compare/contrast between the movie and book. Social Studies has been fun! We started the year with the Civil Rights Movement, we just finished Child Labor, and now we are beginning Women's Rights. So what's next? We will begin our Young Explorers unit with a fun simulation where we set sail in hopes of finding a new trade route around the tip of Africa! SEP Conferences are next week! The calendar is available on the Oakridge website. Please take a moment to sign up for a time to visit. I prefer to have both parents and the student attend SEP Conference, thank you! Finally, please remember how important it is for your student to be at school, and on time. It crushes them when they walk in late, and sets a negative tone for the entire day! If you are struggling to get your student to school, please let me know so that I can try to help! Birthday treats are always welcome but not necessary! If you do send treats, please remember they need to be store bought, ready to eat (no cutting, please), and I prefer healthy! If it is a sweet treat, we will enjoy them at the end of the day. We are a peanut aware school, so if it is possible, I prefer no peanut treats. Thank you for your understanding! 😊
I have received several notes in planners that some parents cannot read their students handwriting. I agree that this is an important part of the communication via planner process, so if you would like, I would like to help. My proposal is that I check their planner as they leave for the day. If I can't read it, they rewrite it. This might delay the individual student for a minute or two, but it shouldn't take longer than that. Please email me and let me know what you think! Hopefully, together, we can come up with a process that works well for all of us!
Hello!! Today when I picked the students up from lunch, I was totally shocked! There was food and trash all over the tables and the floor! As a class we discussed where the trash and food go, and why it is important to clean up after ourselves. I assured the students that they couldn't throw their trash and food on the floor or table at home either, and that their parents would be surprised to hear that this is happening at school. If you get the chance, please talk to the students at home about the importance of putting food and trash where they belong at school. I really appreciate it!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. There is math homework tonight, please check the calendar and be sure the student planner matches the homework description! Hello Everyone! Just a friendly reminder that we will have a test in Social Studies that covers material from the Civil Rights Movement, on Monday, September 11th. I have given all the students a study sheet. I will be giving them time in class to study, so they will need to keep the study sheet in their homework binder so they can study both at home and at school.
Parents, please remember to sign the planner Monday through Friday. It is important to get this communication tool right, so that we are setting up the students for success in the years to come. I hope all of you had a wonderful long weekend. Be safe and GO OLYMPIANS! |
